About Me

I live two lives, and I refuse to apologize for either of them.

By day, I’m a business and data analyst with more than a decade of experience across finance, federal government programs, and e-commerce. In other words, I’m the person you call when your numbers live in twelve spreadsheet tabs and nobody trusts them anymore. I work remotely with small businesses everywhere, from my home port in Blind River, Ontario.

By night—or sometimes by dawn, if the characters are misbehaving—I write science fiction and fantasy, including the award-winning Rangers of Walden series. As it turns out, writing and data analysis have more in common than you’d think: both involve complex systems, finding patterns, and figuring out what happens when people make decisions inside them.

The rest of my life is somewhat less conventional. I live year-round aboard a sailboat, sailing the Great Lakes in the warmer months and settling into cozy harbours when the ice comes in. I’m a passionate supporter of literacy and young writers, and I’m involved with the Freelancers Union, the Online News Association, the Sudbury Arts Council, and the Sudbury Writers’ Guild. I play video games recreationally and write novels competitively—which is to say, to deadline.
